Do I need a paid Claude plan?

No. Claude's Free plan allows one custom connector. In ChatGPT, custom MCP servers require developer mode, which is on paid plans.

Can the assistant see other people's data?

No. It only reaches apps that are yours or your business's, and only each app's tables. The database checks every command before it runs.

Use theo with Claude and ChatGPT via MCP

theo has an MCP server (Model Context Protocol, the open standard that connects AI assistants to other systems). Once connected, Claude — and other MCP clients, such as ChatGPT in developer mode — can query and change your apps' data and search, read and write your MyNotes, always with your permission. The address is https://theo.beadev.ai/api/mcp.

What you can do

"How many late orders do I have in my orders app?" — the assistant looks at the app's structure and queries the table.
"Mark order 42 as delivered." — it changes the data (Claude and ChatGPT ask you to confirm first).
"Summarize my 'Monday meeting' page" or "create a page with this plan in the Projects folder".
"Compare this month's sales with last month's and write the summary in a note."

Read tools are flagged as read-only in the protocol, so the assistant knows which calls change data.

Step by step: Claude

In Claude (web and desktop app), Free, Pro and Max plans:

Open Customize → Connectors and click Add custom connector (the Free plan allows one custom connector).
Give it a name (for example, theo) and paste the address: https://theo.beadev.ai/api/mcp
Click Add, then Connect. Claude opens theo's sign-in page.
Sign in to theo. The Allow screen shows who is asking for access and where it goes. Check it and click Allow.
In a chat, click + → Connectors and turn theo on. Try "which apps do I have on theo?".

Team and Enterprise plans: an organization owner adds the connector in Organization settings → Connectors; then each member connects their own account in Customize → Connectors.

Menu names are Claude's as of September 2026 and may change.

Step by step: Claude Code

In Claude Code (terminal):

claude mcp add --transport http theo https://theo.beadev.ai/api/mcp

Then, inside Claude Code, run /mcp, pick theo and sign in in the browser (the same Allow screen).

Step by step: ChatGPT

In ChatGPT: custom MCP servers are added through developer mode, available on the web for paid plans (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu; on business plans an admin has to allow it first).

Turn on developer mode in ChatGPT's settings.
Create a new app (or plugin) with the address https://theo.beadev.ai/api/mcp.
Sign in to theo and click Allow.

ChatGPT asks for confirmation before using tools that change data. OpenAI renamed these menus more than once in 2026 — if you can't find them, search ChatGPT's help for "developer mode".

Security: what the assistant can reach

Nothing happens without your click. A connection is only created on theo's Allow screen, which shows who is asking and where access goes. Sign-in uses OAuth with PKCE; theo stores only token hashes, and refresh rotates the token on every use.
Only your apps (and your business's) — never someone else's public app, nor the showcase templates.
Only that app's tables. The database itself checks each command before it runs: a query that tries to read another table is rejected. Reads run in a read-only transaction; UPDATE and DELETE require a WHERE; one command at a time.
A MyNotes page in live (real-time) editing is not overwritten — the assistant is told to create a new page instead.
Disconnecting is one click: Settings → Connections shows who is connected and lets you disconnect.

What has not been tested yet

The whole path — client registration, sign-in, Allow, tool calls, token refresh and stolen-token detection — was proven in production by an automated client that follows the same protocol. Each assistant (Claude, ChatGPT) has its own connection details; if yours fails, contact us with the assistant and the step where it stopped.
